February Newsletter

23 Feb 2018

As many will already know, House Manager, Kathy Bagnall, will be leaving us on 28th Feb after 12 years service. I'm sure you would want to join the Board and staff of Shrewsbury House in thanking her for her hard work in keeping the House going through some very difficult times and wish her all the best for the future.

We are advertising for a new House Manager and will make an appointment as soon as possible (see below).

Join the Feast

The time has come, the Walrus said, to talk of many things, of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings - but mostly that the Shrewsbury House cafe will re-open on 1st March under the management of award-winning Feast Food.

As well as a daily cafe service, Feast will be providing all our catering for events, weddings, meetings, and running lots of food events starting with a Mothers' Day tea on - you guessed it - Mothers' Day. That's Sunday 11th March from 1.30pm.

Christina and her tirelessly energetic team are busy transforming the cafe space into something quite special and quite secret until the big reveal on 1st March!

When is a door not a door?

The answer appears to be when it isn't attached to the door frame of room3! After some weeks of being rather open plan, specialist carpenters are coming to re-hang the door during the last week of February.

As you'll appreciate, Shrewsbury House is a Grade II listed building and we have to make sure that all the woodwork is restored correctly hence the delay in finding appropriate tradespeople to do the job.

The Quiz on the Hill

On Friday 16th February we hosted the Quiz on the Hill - a joint event in support of Friends of Shrewsbury Park and Friends of Shrewsbury House. The quiz was sold out in a matter of days. The eveing was a fantastic success with 65 people taking part and having a great time.

Special thanks have to go to Geoff and his glamorous assistant Dee who devised and ran the quiz.

We know that some people were disapointed not to have been able to get tickets for this event. Should we do this more often? How often? Let us know at trustees@shrewburyhouse.org

An evening with Steve Conway

On Friday 23rd February Vocalist,Steve Conway, provided and evening of Swing, Jazz, Blues and Jive to an enthusiastic audience happy to clear a space and join in with some great dancing.

Steve will be back with us performing at Do You Vintage? on Sunday 4th March
