29 Mar 2018
A lot has happened this month including two lots of snow that proved a challenge for our lovely old building. Despite the odd roof leak and drain blockage we've come through it all pretty well intact.
This has been the first full month of operation of the cafe and reaction has been very positive. The food, the coffee and the staff have all been complimented.

Our cafe service provided by Feast Food has got off to a flying start and is collecting praise all round for the quality of the food and the atmosphere in the cafe. During the recent snow days, when most classes were cancelled, the cafe was still doing a roaring trade. A sign that it is fast becoming a destination in its own right.
Over the coming weeks and months opening hours will vary a little in response to demand so keep an eye out on the website and around the house for announcements.
Next month Feast will once again be collaborating with 2017 Masterchef Finalist, Steve Kielty, to host an eight course tasting menu. The event will take place on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th April in the Old Libarary Bar.
Tickets are £60 each and there will be matching wines available to buy on the night supplied by Theatre of Wine.
We regret that due to the nature of the event, we can’t accommodate any special dietary requirements.
Friday night is now sold out but there are still some tickets for Saturday.
Feast will also be running special Easter events for children. Look out for information in the cafe.
Our regular Friday night bar opening continues to be well supported and popular so it's important that we let you know that the bar will not be open on Good Friday and the following Friday April 6th when it will be closed for the Masterchef Feast event.
Normal service resumes the week after.
On Friday 23rd March we welcomed the fantastic Woolwich Singers for an evening of song from classics to pop.
This great amateur choir is drawn entirely from local people. There's no audition so everyone can join in whatever their experience or ability.
I'm sure we'll be seeing them at Shrewsbury House again soon.
Friday 13th April 2pm to 5pm
Hop along to Shrewsbury House for a fun-filled afternoon for children including an Easter egg hunt, egg and spoon races and pin the tail on the Easter Bunny (ouch!) and a disco from 3pm to 5pm.
Tickets are £5.00 per child (free for adults) and include a drink and a chocolate egg. Numbers are limited so it's a good idea to book in advance.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the barFollowing on from the huge success of the Rebels Without Paws quiz night, a second quiz is planned for 1st June. Look out for more information in the next newsletter.
As before, the quiz will be a fundraiser to support a group of seven local women who are rowing the Channel to raise money for the Ahoy Centre in Deptford.

We had an excellent response to our advert with thirty six applications received by the closing date. We interviewed the top four shortlisted candidates on Thursday 22nd March and we are delighted to say we have appointed a new manager who we expect to start in early May. There are certain procedures we have to go through before we can introduce them formally so expect another announcement next week.

As you will know, at the last AGM certain changes were agreed to our Memorandum and Articles of Association that give us greater freedom to recruit new trustees between AGMs.
We are seeking to expand the present Board of Trustees and we're looking for people to join us who have energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to continue to develop Shrewsbury House as a thriving hub of activity that serves not just our immediate community but the wider community of Plumstead and Shooters Hill.
We are particularly looking for Trustees who can bring some specialist knowledge or skill.
